The mountain road curves left.

I stop on the outside two-foot
    shoulder, looking down.

The motorcycle is heavy.

Getting ready to continue, I
bend to my mirror to see if
    my helmetless hair is unruly—

But I must bend down to time
    .and follow further down the
    .crown my forehead makes at
the top of the round rear mirror.
