With the passing of Clive Davis, the music industry has lost one of its most influential figures. For more than six decades, the American music executive and producer left a lasting mark on the global music business and played a key role in shaping the careers of numerous artists.
Art Garfunkel’s professional path crossed with Clive Davis on several occasions over many years. During Garfunkel’s early solo career, Davis was among the leading figures at Columbia Records and part of the professional environment that oversaw many important releases of that period.
The connection continued in later decades. In 2024, Art Garfunkel was among the guests at “The Soundtrack of Our Lives: A Tribute to the Legendary Clive Davis,” held in honor of Davis’s 90th birthday.
Just a few months before his passing, Clive Davis personally invited Art Garfunkel to the traditional Pre-Grammy Gala 2026 at the Beverly Hilton. There, Garfunkel closed the evening with a performance of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and acknowledged their long-standing connection in a brief personal address.
Clive Davis was regarded as one of the most influential A&R executives and music entrepreneurs of his generation. His instinct for talent, his passion for music, and his lasting impact on the global music industry remain an enduring part of popular music history.
