Most of my
love life's been given to
acquiescence.
But the essence of loving - the seed inbred
is the wanting to be with
the one you love
And the feeding of the need that must be fed.
We lingered
a lot in bed that week - a pair
of expatriate artists
with jam on the spread;
We smoked cigarettes in our underwear
until all of the Austrian Herald Tribune
had been read.
What did
we know of the proper forms of love?
Then it was magic - you could pretend
a friend was a lover who
loved you when
you'd thirst for what
you must have, in the
end.
