firefly flew
into The Old Spanish Carol
To the amber light above and back.
It lit on the fader
of the fourteenth track
for
a sit;
Where
Ossian Davis
had played his harp
On Christmas Eve a year ago;
Where Geoff just mixed
the instrument low
(or lower perhaps than the
firefly felt it should
go)
What
is it trying to tell us --
That it knows where the focal points are?
That its insect heart is set
on the part of the star?
Is
it just a nightfly
sittin' in --
Willing to glow
if the show's alive,
But if it dies
it flies.
